INNATE Postpartum Care Practitioner —

Hi there, I’m Skylar!

I’m a mother, postpartum doula, home herbalist, and farmer devoted to supporting women through the sacred window of transformation after birth in southeast Nebraska. I live on the prairie with my family, where we regeneratively graze goats and cattle.

I created Deep Roots Doula Care to help fill the gap in support so many mothers experience after birth. My work is rooted in the belief that food is medicine and that postpartum care should nourish the mind, body, and spirit.

Through nourishing meals, in-home support, body care, emotional presence, and gentle guidance, I support mothers as they rebuild strength, vitality, and connection in the early postpartum period.

My Story

With my first son, I remember leaving the hospital with a “baby manual” on how to care for my newborn - but no guidance on how to care for myself.

I experienced rage, isolation, and deep fatigue. My postpartum care consisted of only two midwife visits, and even after a forceps delivery, I received no referrals for pelvic floor support. Eighteen months later, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I spent years recovering from that birth. Healing trauma. Replenishing nutrients. Tending to my needs that had gone unnoticed by myself and the community.

When I became pregnant again four years later, I chose a different path. I slowed down. I trusted my intuition. I leaned into traditional postpartum care and prioritized rest, nourishment, and support in a very intentional way.

My recovery was completely different. I felt held, steady, and deeply restored.

That experience changed everything for me.

I now support mothers through nourishment, rest, and traditional postpartum care rooted in physiological recovery and emotional support.

What I Believe

I believe mothers deserve to be showered with love, attention, and care after birth.

Across cultures and generations, postpartum has been recognized as a time of deep restoration- when the mother is held, nourished, and protected so she can heal and bond with her baby.

In our modern world, this kind of care is often missing. Many mothers are left to recover without adequate support, which can lead to exhaustion, disconnection, and long-term depletion.

When we return to physiological postpartum care - honoring the body’s innate need for rest, nourishment, warmth, and support - mothers experience a more grounded and supported recovery.

I am guided by traditional postpartum wisdom from cultures around the world and by the understanding that when mothers are cared for, families thrive.

My Approach

My training is rooted in the physiological needs of mothers during the early postpartum period. I focus on supporting the body’s natural recovery process through nourishment, rest, and traditional care practices that have been used across cultures for generations.

I am guided by the understanding that postpartum is not a time to push through - but a time to be deeply supported.
